Our next medical mission is to Honghe, China in Yunnan Province. The team takes off on September 1.
This is our 54th mission to China but our first to Honghe, and our second to Yunnan Province. Our partners in China, the China Population Welfare Foundation, chose Yunnan Province as our current area of focus, because it is a remote area with a large population of children with unrepaired clefts. Our first mission to this province took place in March of this year, and we treated 65 children, some of them with very complex cases.
As usual we are very excited about this upcoming trip, and are right now putting together a team.
Our summer intern Yuting is learning all about what it takes to put a mission together. She is assisting Paul with packing all the necessary medical supplies. To make sure the team has everything they need we have a standard list of supplies that we pack. We compare this list to a list we receive from the hospital stating what they can provide, and a list of what we left in the country on our last mission there. So some of the supplies will travel from San Francisco, some will be supplied by the local hospital, and some will be shipped from our previous mission in China.
