Today is our 4th day of surgery it proved to be a big day for the small and young! We had four children under the age of 2 and the oldest was 10-years.
Our requirements for surgery is referred to as the 10-10-10 rule. If the child is 10 weeks, 10lbs and has a 10 hgb level we can operate on the lip. If a child is 10 months, 10 lbs and has a 10 hgb level we can operate on the palate.
Having a cleft repair early in life will allow the children to thrive. Being accepted in society and live a normal life benefits the patient, their parents and their village.
