The final day of the Alliance for Smiles mission in Hue, Vietnam, was nothing short of extraordinary. This incredible effort, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Saigon and the Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, had already changed so many lives. But the last case of the mission made it especially unforgettable. Y Nguyen, a tiny three-month-old baby and the youngest of four siblings, was the final patient. Her mother was understandably emotional, tears streaming as she waited anxiously for news. When Y Nguyen was brought to the PACU after surgery, her peaceful little face brought a wave of relief and joy. Her mother’s tears turned to smiles, and everyone who saw her felt the impact of this moment.
Word spread quickly about Y Nguyen, and before long, most of the team had made their way to the PACU to see her. The room filled with a celebratory energy as doctors, nurses, and volunteers gathered, sharing in the joy of a life transformed. There was a real sense of awe in seeing this tiny baby, now with a brighter future thanks to their work. It wasn’t just about completing the final surgery—it was about finishing in the best way possible, with hope and happiness at the center of it all. As the mission wrapped up, the team left with full hearts, knowing they had truly finished on a high note.
