Our professional AfS team with local staff assistance performed two surgeries on this day. The leading AfS surgeon is talented Dr. Ahmed Gad.
Our first patient of this mission was a 37-year-old woman named Madelyn with a cleft lip. She discovered we were providing free cleft surgeries by chance. She was on the bus on her way home and a reporter who attended our press conference last week saw her and gave her the marketing flyer letting her know of our mission. We provided her with a cleft lip revision. Her first surgery was at age 7. She has been unhappy with the results from the first surgery so when she learned of our mission, she immediately came to our opening clinic to get screened. Madelyn was definitely in the right place at the right time. The operation was under local anesthesia. She returns in five days to check and remove the stitches.
The second patient was a 2-year-old girl named Jellianne with a bi-lateral cleft and palate. You will hear all about this special child in our next briefing.
