Little Kevin, age 5 months and his family heard about the Alliance for Smiles mission through Ms. Ruby Dimaya, President of Rotary Club of Makati San Miguel. Two months ago, the Rotary Club of Makati Gems, one of our sponsors put out a call for help to other Clubs in Manila to look for patients with clefts that can benefit from the mission.
As Ruby was taking the train home, she saw this cute little baby with his mom and offered the mom her seat. Then she noticed that the baby had a cleft lip. Ruby introduced herself and shared that a team of international doctors was coming to Manila to offer free cleft surgeries. The mom was excited. Ruby asked for the mom’s contact information and promised to contact her once a date was set for the team to arrive.

Kevin, his dad, and his grandmother traveled 5 hours to Rizal Medical Center for the initial screening. After the examination, baby Kevin was determined healthy and was then scheduled for his cleft lip surgery. Kevin also has a cleft palate. As the screening took place, the team played with baby Kevin as he smiled and giggled and warmed our hearts. Baby Kevin`s surgery well smoothly and when his grandmother saw her grandson for the first time, she was overjoyed. She and Kevin`s dad want to thank the entire AfS team as well as all the sponsors, hospitals, and everyone involved in making a difference in Kevin`s life.
