Yesterday we celebrated the anesthesiologist extraordinaire, Dr. Rose Bearson’s birthday.

It is Rose’s first mission with AfS and among numerous other talents she revealed, there was one that stood out – she can make any child smile, no matter how sad or scared they might be.

36 year old Floriberta was all smiles going into cleft palate surgery, a day after her 16 year old nephew, Leyber, underwent the same procedure.

In the recovery room her husband, a pastor, offered a prayer for her speedy recovery and for the entire medical team that made these surgeries possible.

Six months old Anderson was the first one to greet us with his contagious cheerfulness in the courtyard of the hospital when we arrived on the first day of the mission.

When his mom, Rosibel, saw him after the surgery, she said she did not recognize her own child and she was overwhelmed by the thought of how much his life will change thanks to AfS.
