Smiles Therapy Works Wonders – Day 5 in Hue, Vietnam

As we pass the halfway point of our mission in Hue, Vietnam, the realization is clear: it’s all about the power of smiles. From the moment we stepped into the hospital, the transformation was tangible. Children who just days ago wore expressions of fear or pain now beamed with radiant, hopeful smiles as they embarked on a fresh start in life. It’s incredible to witness how a successful surgery can change not just a face, but a future. Meanwhile, our team kept the smiles flowing—offering warm, reassuring grins to patients and one another. It’s true: a simple smile can make all the difference in someone’s day, whether it’s calming an anxious parent or giving a tired teammate that extra boost of energy.

As the procedure progressed, the teamwork was remarkable. The surgical team carried out their work with precision, while the anesthesia team monitored closely, ready to assist as needed. Once the operation was complete, they oversaw the transition to the PACU, where recovery nurses were ready to provide comfort and care. Watching the team work so seamlessly, it was hard to believe many of them had only just met. Through cooperation and shared purpose, they demonstrated how quickly a strong, compassionate team can come together to make a difference.

Of course, there was no shortage of joyful smiles during the lighter moments of the day. A spontaneous game of peek-a-boo with one of the kids had us all laughing, proving that smiles truly are contagious. Even amidst the challenges, we were reminded: we can never take smiles for granted—treasure each and every one! Each smile, whether shared with a patient, a parent, or a teammate, carried its own special magic, and together they fueled our collective spirit. The theme of the day was clear: smiles heal, connect, and uplift. And this week, in Hue, we saw their magic in full force.
