That’s a wrap! Today was our Closing Clinic and our opportunity to say good-bye to patients, the hospital team and our Sohag Rotary hosts.
This mission has certainly been a challenging one with the team facing many curve balls. Our equipment and supplies never cleared customs. This meant our team had to rely heavily on the local team to gather what we could to perform procedures. A lot of the gear our team is familiar with and depends upon wasn’t available here.
While it didn’t go as planned, we channeled our inner MacGyver and made it work. We stayed focused on our North Star – to help kids and families in need and train up the local staff to serve their community long after we’ve gone. On those fronts, the Sohag Mission has been a resounding success.
The team performed 13 surgeries and 90 dental procedures. We changed the lives of 38 patients and their families. What’s more, we provided classroom and hands-on training to over 200 Sohag doctors, nurses and students to help them better serve their community. Not bad!
Thank you to our friends at the Paramus Rotary Club, Paramus Sunrise Rotary Club, Rotary District 7490, Rotary Club of San Francisco, Trinity International Mission, NJ, and Rotary Club of Sohag for making this possible!
You achieved more than you think. You faced many challenges working here. These challenges were an opportunity for us to learn something new. Your comments and notes showed us what needs to change. This is what will make us better and benefit our patients.
– Dr. Mostafa Youssif, Mission Coordinator, Rotary of Sohag
“What you shared with us will live on long after you leave. The surgical techniques, your guidance for the nursing team and the dental team. Everyone learned a lot. I know this was a difficult situation with many obstacles. You handled it with smiles on your faces. Thank you. The patients loved the care you showed. They all want you to stay – or take them with you!”
– Dr. Mohammed El Sayed, Assistant Lecturer of Plastic Surgery
