With each two week mission, the team gets 1 day off in the middle. For this mission, the Sohag Rotary Club treated us to an epic adventure.
First we visited Abydos, an ancient city an hour away from Sohag. It was once regarded as one of the holiest places in Egypt. We toured the impressive Temple of Seti I, one of the most intact temples in Egypt with beautiful bas-relief carvings. It was built in c.1,300 BCE to commemorate the early pharaohs and major Gods of Egypt
After Abydos, we drove back to Sohag for an incredible feast on the Nile. A highlight was Hamam Mahshi, aka stuffed squab, a dish reserved for special occasions. Sherin taught us how to eat it properly – like a burrito!
After dinner, Charlie and Lorrie reenacted the Titanic scene, Kumar got some selfies, and we connected more with our new friends who have worked hard to make this mission successful and keep our team safe. All-in-all, a great day.
Thank you to our friends at the Paramus Rotary Club, Paramus Sunrise Rotary Club, Rotary District 7490, Rotary Club of San Francisco, Trinity International Mission, NJ, and Rotary Club of Sohag for making this possible!
