As part of the shift in focus from maximizing cases to building capacity, we dedicated yesterday to lecture-based education and knowledge sharing. We engaged over 200 physicians, nurses and students across 3 tracks: surgery, anesthesiology and nursing. Our team covered a broad range of topics during the day including a review of comprehensive cleft cases infant to adult, pain management, and post-anesthesia care.
The team was pleased with the turnout and the quality of the questions and discussion. The education went both ways. We learned that nurses here have worked with a 60:1 patient to nurse ratio.
Referring to the nursing track, Ward Coordinator (and unoffcial translator), Sherin Elashry said, “This was their first opportunity to learn directly from [nursing] experts, and they truly appreciated it. They were engaged, eager to absorb knowledge, and expressed how valuable the experience was for them. It was inspiring to see their enthusiasm and dedication!”
To our friends at the Paramus Rotary Club, Paramus Sunrise Rotary Club, Rotary District 7490, Rotary Club of San Francisco, Trinity International Mission, NJ, and Rotary Club of Sohag, thank you for making this possible!
